Dry spring, lots of sun, wakes vines at Smithtown's only vineyard.
While it's still unknown when locals will be able to buy or even taste wines from Smithtown's Whisper Vineyards, that isn't stopping the vines from growing.
A warm, sunny and mostly dry spring has meant good growth for the vines at Whisper, with bud break, the point where the leaf buds emerge from the tied-down vines, now a few weeks old.
Whisper's future is still in limbo, with owners for the site.

The Town of Smithtown has already approved the vineyard's plan to convert a barn on the property to a tasting room.
