St. James Glass Shop Exits Lake Avenue
New owners may turn empty storefront into a salon.
Werner Boys Glass and Mirror has left its longtime home in St. James, leaving its Lake Avenue storefront to become a partially home-based business, according to owner Steve Werner.
"My father sold the building," Werner said. "We had different opinions about the direction of the business."
According to Werner, smaller glass, mirror and screen jobs will now be done out of nearby St. James Lumber, which has given them some space, while larger jobs will be done out of the Lake Grove home of Werner's brother.
The sale of the building also meant the loss of Werner's business phone number, so he asked that new customers or anyone trying to reach them would call their new number at 631-981-8464.
As for the fate of the shop's former 405 Lake Avenue home, the new owners already have a plan.
"They are going to set up a salon," Werner said.
