Top 10 Dishes of the Year

With all the eateries in the area, the Patch staff enjoyed some local treats throughout the year and reported back to you.

Red Lobster has fresh lobster, mayonnaise and cucumber inside, with spicy tuna on top. The Pink Lady roll consists of lobster, shrimp, crabmeat, seaweed salad, cucumber, avocado, spicy mayo, and is wrapped with a rice skin.

Bleu Cheese Burger Deluxe is a juicy, thick 6-ounce burger with lettuce, tomato and bleu cheese on a toasted bun with a number of sides, including french fries, onion rings, cole slaw and a pickle. For $2.75 you could add bacon for some additional flavor.

You might not think octopus is a Smithtown delicacy, but with in town, you might want to think again. Small-plate goodness is the norm at this small eatery in St. James near the corner of Route 25 and Lake Avenue, though its house special Octopus Galician Style is a real treat.

The Shrimp Pad Thai lunch special at Thai House is served with salad and a spring roll. The soft rice noodles are tossed with a tangy and sweet sauce, crushed peanuts, thin strands of scrambled eggs, baked tofu, bean sprouts and scallions. Shrimp are large, and the tails are left on, so keep your napkin handy. It's creamy and thickly sauced, with the peanuts offering a bit of texture to liven it up.

For $3.50 a piece, each fish taco at features a cleanly seared tilapia filet topped with sweet and sour red cabbage slaw, sweet corn salsa and a creamy chipotle aioli served on a warmed soft tortilla. And here's a tip: Top it with the restaurant's homemade hot sauce for an extra kick.

The French Toast Deluxe at is two generous pieces of light and airy but rich and flavorful French toast, coming in at more than one inch thick each. A heaping basket of butter and syrup accompanies the enormous slices of toast. Add bacon, ham, sausage and an egg to complete the meal.

 Chicken Francaise is served in a light lemon sauce with your choice of pasta. The chicken is smothered in a very light buttery lemon sauce which has just the right amount of lemon. It is refreshing and filling and is the perfect dish is you are looking for something without a red sauce. It is garnished with broccoli which is steamed to perfection.

The Shrimp Casserole at  has shrimp with fresh tomatoes, garlic and feta cheese over spinach, topped with mozzarella cheese.

The Sliced EverRoast chicken sandwich is stuffed with sliced EverRoast chicken, eggplant, asparagus, roasted peppers, mozzarella and pesto on grilled rye bread.

The Cobb Wrap has a generous portion of grilled chicken, with enough bacon for each and every bite, crisp lettuce, juicy tomato and the flavor that dominates the wrap – bleu cheese – all served on a whole wheat or tortilla wrap. The wrap has crumbled blue cheese bits throughout with a serving of bleu cheese dressing on the side.
