Two Car Dealerships Cut Costs by Going to Solar Power

Narly Honda and Smithtown Acura install solar energy systems to go green, save on energy costs.

Two Smithtown car dealerships are seeing green: reducing their footprint by installing solar power and saving on energy costs.

Nardy Honda of St. James and Smithtown Acura are among the first car dealerships in the nation to go through with participating in American Honda's Partnership with Solar City, who has offices in Hauppauge, by installing turnkey solar power.

"I can’t think of a reason not to go solar. I believe electricity prices will just keep going up. Solar makes sense and SolarCity made it easy,” said Lee Certilman, owner of Nardy Honda.

The two dealerships - both third-generation automotive dealers - have both received the the American Honda and Acura Environmental Leadership Award, an award that recognizes car dealers who significantly reduce their environmental impact by reducing energy and water consumption and participate in recycling programs.

American Honda's partnership with Solar City also allows dealerships in 13 other states to install solar systems with little to no upfront costs to being immediately saving on their utility bills.

"We’ve asked our dealers to reduce their environmental impact by participating in our Environmental Leadership Program,” said Steve Center, vice president of the Honda Environmental Business Development Office.

Residents can get a free, no-obligation solar consultation from Solar City through this partnership by calling call 855-775-SOLAR (7652) or visiting this website.
