Headlines Nearby: Hauppauge Boy Dies After Falling in Pool

Check out all the top headlines from the past week from nearby Patch towns.

Port Jefferson

The Congressional race between incumbent Tim Bishop and challenger Randy Altschuler seems to be picking up right where it left off two years ago. The most recent row is a finger pointing campaign over who said what about Altschuler’s private corporate office on Long Island.

Bishop’s side is accusing the challenger of taking jobs out of the United States through his private companies. Altschuler’s camp says that Bishop has yet to explain what they claim is the loss of 30,000 jobs from Long Island since he’s been in Congress.

That economic argument has come to a head over a small, unoccupied office in Port Jefferson Station.

Three Village

Not many 17-year-olds get to say they have performed solo at Carnegie Hall, but Madeleine Vaillancourt is one who can. Vaillancourt, who is just finishing up her junior year at Ward Melville High School, was recently a featured soloist at Carnegie Hall with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York. She performed the Mendelssohn Concerto in E Minor for violin.

Before her performance, Vaillancourt said she got to spend 20 minutes by herself on the stage without the orchestra or the audience, and called it one of the most memorable moments of her life.

Hauppauge

A Hauppauge boy has died after falling into his backyard pool on Sunday. News12 reports that Shane Brennan, 4, died at Stony Brook University Medical Center days after falling into his backyard pool.

The will be renovated and turned into a modern office space.

"Why are Smithtown teachers continuing to pay for school supplies out of their ownRead More pocket?" Since when? Ever see the big list of supplies kids get in their folders at the end of the year for them to bring in next year? I think you're talking about the wrong school district.
