More Than 31,000 Without Power Tuesday Morning

Hurricane Sandy keeps a majority of Smithtown in the dark, with LIPA currently assessing outage conditions.

Hurricane Sandy has arrived and its strength has knocked out power to a majority of the Town of Smithtown. As of 5 a.m. Tuesday, LIPA has reported 45,045 homes are in the dark. 

Specifically in Smithtown, St. James, Nesconset, Head of the Harbor, Village of the Branch and Nissequogue, there are 31,828 outages. Here is a breakdown of what areas are missing power:

  • Smithtown – 17,531
  • St. James – 6,741
  • Nesconset – 3,170
  • Village of the Branch – 2,251
  • Head of the Harbor – 1,064
  • Nissequogue – 1,071

Throughout Suffolk County there are 454,489 outages.
