Aug. 26 is National Dog Day. It is a day not to be confused with National Mutt Day (Dec. 2), National Puppy Day (March 23) or National Pet Day (April 11). But what all the days have in common is that they were founded by animal advocate Colleen Paige and are designed to draw attention to the need for pet rescue.
In honor of National Dog Day, Patch would like to recognize all our local rescue organizations, including:
The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind of Smithtown is an organization that works with dogs to train them and provide service animals for people who are blind or visually impaired.
To recognize the great things these organizations do, we invite you to SHARE by posting photos of your pooch to the gallery above. Also, tell us in the comment section below how you are celebrating National Dog Day and if you adopted a rescue pet.
