Military Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Miller Place

A military helicopter made an emergency landing in a Miller Place sod farm on Wednesday, according to Suffolk Police and the FAA.

Suffolk County Police received a call around 2 p.m. about a possible military helicopter landing in the DeLea Sod Farm on Route 25A in Miller Place.

A Stony Brook University student was sent to the hospital after being hit by a university police car en route to a 911 call Thursday night, campus officials confirmed on Friday morning. Robert J. Lenahan, chief of police and assistant vice president for campus safety at SBU, said in a statement that shortly after 10 p.m., eyewitnesses reported that a campus police officer was driving on Circle Road, west of Engineering Drive, with its emergency lights activated when the officer struck a sidewalk and veered in the opposite direction, causing the vehicle to hit the student.
