"Courtney Sipes is from my elementary school, where my kids go to school, so it's a great cause, so is all the other causes that we're out here for," he said. "It's always for the charity, it's not for the winning of the race. It's just for the support."

Following Abruzzo was Michael Robles, 53, of Smithtown, with a time of 18:07:56, and Matt Basile, 18, of Smithtown, with a time of 18:09:78.

Shari Klarfeld, 30, of Plainview, came in first of all women runners, sixth place overall, with a time of 18:51:56.

Lavena Sipes, mother of 11-year-old Courtney who was killed in a November 2009 accident on Main Street, said seeing people brave the weather to participate in her daughter's memory was rewarding.

"It's the second year that it's been in honor of Courtney and we're just completely touched that Courtney is remembered and people come out to honor her," she said. "We're thrilled for that support."

Sipes said proceeds from the run will go towards supporting kids with interest in music and the arts.
