UPDATE: Port Jefferson LIRR Problems Reported After Train Strikes Person in Nassau

LIRR service between Jamaica and Hicksville was temporarily suspended.

UPDATE – 1:50 p.m.: The MTA is reporting that service has been restored, with residual delays on some branches, between Hicksville and Jamaica.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The LIRR is reporting that alternate shuttle services are being set up on the Port Jefferson line due to a train striking a passenger near New Hyde Park. Service via the Stony Brook train station is affected.

Service was suspended between Jamaica and Hicksville after a non-passenger train struck an unauthorized person on the track. LIRR officials are advising travelers to take the Babylon or Montauk branches to reach their westward destinations. Shuttles will operate between Hicksville and Babylon for those traveling west on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches.

The incident was reported at approximately 10:40 a.m.
