Sinkhole Filled, Mt. Pleasant Road to Re-Open Thursday Evening

Workers are finishing up the paving at the sinkhole that closed Mount Pleasant Road at Cambridge Drive early Tuesday morning.

The intersection is expected to be open by Thursday evening, according to workers at the scene. No exact time for the road to re-open has been given.

Suffolk County Water Authority workers said Tuesday afternoon that a broken water main caused the sinkhole, a sinkhole that left a 6-foot deep section of the road missing.

Suffolk County Police said Tuesday morning that the sinkhole swallowed-up an SUV at 3:39 a.m., causing Suffolk County Water Authority workers to report to the scene. There were no reported injuries, according to police.
