UPDATE: St. James, Hauppauge Residents Without Power

LIPA is reporting more than 700 outages in the area.

UPDATE 4:45 p.m.: As of 4:45 the Town of Smithtown is down to 55 homes without power, according to LIPA.

There are 53 homes in Hauppauge without power and LIPA reports less than five homes are in the dark in St. James.

LIPA workers are out in the Town of Smithtown trying to get power back to the reported 762 homes in the dark.

The workers were spotted on Woodlawn Avenue in St. James repairing down power lines. It did not appear that any trees were down in the area.

As of 2 p.m. power outages hit St. James and Hauppauge the hardest – St. James has 229 homes without power and Hauppauge has 510 homes without power.

Head of the Harbor is the only other area in Smithtown in the dark with 23 reported outages.

They are indoors and at the age where driving may not be an option. And the facility faces Route 25A. A main corridor that has been used as a main road for over 50 years. A road that has gas stations,bars, hospitals, nursing homes, retail stores and high schools presently on it. Why not an assisted living.
