This Day in History: Cleary School Guard Found Beaten to Death
Nick Ballas, 58, a security guard for Cleary School for the Deaf, was found beaten to death at the school on this day in 1987.
On this day on 1987, security guard Nick Ballas, 58, was found beaten to death at the Cleary School for the Deaf, according an archived New York Times report.
According to the report, Sgt. William Hamilton, a spokesman for the Suffolk County Police Department, said the body of Ballas, with his upper body beaten, was found at 4:45 a.m. by another guard coming into work.
The sergeant continued to say that no weapon was found at the school and did not know of an apparent motive for the incident.
