Water Swallows Long Beach Road [Photos]

Road barriers are on the road towards Long Beach discouraging locals from heading over there to check out the water levels.

Long Beach Road residents were encouraged by the town to evacuate while Hurricane Sandy had its way with the town. If you live there and are still there you are stuck there as water as completely taken over the roadway.

This afternoon the water began making its way up the winding road up to points on the road before you could normally see the beach. Public Safety officials placed a road barrier near The Knox School discouraging locals from heading towards the beach.

Check out these photos of the water taking over Long Beach Road.

This road usually floods at high tide - kinda knew the storm would do this.

I have photos of the same during Hurricane Gloria in '85. Not as intense as Sandy, but vessels moored nearby still wound up demolished on LB Road and in adjacent trees.

When will the public schools reopen, or we don't know yet.

Connie, I'll check into that for you. Stick with Patch for updates.
