Week in Review: Arrest Made in St. James Stationery Attempted Robbery

In an attempt to rid the town of an “eyesore,” town officials unlawfully pressured a landowner into demolishing a property, even after a stoppage in demolition was issued, according to a Suffolk Grand Jury report released Tuesday.

A Holbrook man is under arrest after police say he attempted to rob a stationery store in St. James Thursday afternoon. Joseph Hogan, 33, entered  on Lake Avenue around 1:15 p.m. and tried to steal money from out of the cash register, police said.

The Smithtown Highway Department is testing out a new way of going green with its town vehicles.
