Week in Review: Main Street Traffic Changes; Man Found With Child Porn

Check out all the top headlines from this past week.

Locals have called for changes to make Main Street safer and the  have taken steps to do so – beginning with freshly painted lines and left-turning lanes. The changes to the roadway included multiple painted lanes to make left turns, markings to extend and re-paint the crosswalk at Lawrence Avenue, and markings to paint a median. 

New York State Police have arrested a Smithtown man who was found with digital photos and videos with underage children performing sexual acts, according to police. Police said Sean Murphy, 27, of Smithtown, was arrested after they received a cyber tip through the Internet Crime Against Children hotline, showing he was in possession of the photos and videos, identified through his computer account. 

The owner of St. James business Sewnonymous is seeing more interest in sewing classes in the area, just as she's decided to sell the shop and take her classes on the road. The owner, who only goes by her first name, Tia, said although the shop opens when clients call and schedule sewing class appointments, a boost in interest has her planning on opening the location for a set three days a week.

The Smithtown Central School District has two National Merit Scholarship winners, selected from more than 15,000 finalists. Smithtown High School West senior Alexander Barnes and Smithtown High School East senior Aniksha Balamurugan took home the scholarships.
