Week in Review: Pedestrian Killed in St. James, Recycling Scheme

A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed Monday evening as he was pushing a cart along a road in St. James. 

The Town of Smithtown was robbed of more than $200,000 by a trio operating a recycling scheme in town for more than two years, officials said, and that amount is likely to increase.


Smithtown Town Supervisor Patrick Vecchio said town officials are angered by the alleged recycling scheme that stole more than $200,000 from its coffers, but applaud the town employees and policies that uncovered it. 


As a  in New York's first district heats up, incumbent Democrat Tim Bishop is adding an office in Smithtown, the back yard of St. James Republican Randy Altschuler.


Burlington Coat Factory in Lake Grove will soon relocate to Stony Brook to take over the storefront formerly occupied by Linens 'n Things at 2199 Nesconset Highway.
