Week in Review: School Budget Gets Approved

Voters passed a $215 million budget Tuesday for the 2012-2013 school year. With a final tally of 3,587 to 1,618, homeowners within the Smithtown Central School district can expect to see a 2.23 percent increase in their collective tax levy in the following year.

Voters  for the on Tuesday, something Superintendent Edward Ehmann said is beneficial to both the students in the district and homeowners. The approval had a difference of nearly 2,000 votes Tuesday, with a final tally of 3,587 to 1,618.

What was  at 600 Middle Country Road in St. James is now under new ownership and a brand new name – Lorenzo's Pizza. The eatery is owned by Joe D'Simone, who has 40 years experience working in pizzerias, and Scott Rosenberg, who owns multiple other pizzerias under the same name as well as numerous Ralphs's Italian Ice locations.

Smithtown area residents divided over whether the remarking of Smithtown's Main Street is helping or only further worsening local traffic and safety issues. A handful of residents attending Town of Smithtown's Town Board meeting Thursday night offered their first hand opinions on theto include left turning lanes heading eastbound, while reducing westbound traffic to one lane. 

A Nesconset man who allegedly broke into a female tenant's apartment in hopes of taking sexual advantage of her will be arraigned before grand jury in Riverhard courts Thursday. Neil A. Parikh, 24, was arrested April 28 after breaking into his female tenant's apartment. He is charged with one felony count of burglary - illegal entry of a dwelling.
