Week in Review: Tattoo Shops Arrive, Mandee Leaves

Check out all the top headlines from this past week.

Main Street will have one less vacant storefront as Liberty Tattoo Company is set to take over the former .

Tattoo shops don’t dominate the town business landscape but within the past week two shops have opened – one is Authentic Arts Tattoo in Nesconset.

Signs went up in the windows of the former  home in Branch Shopping Plaza . This week workers put up fences around the building indicating construction is ongoing.

While there aren't an abundance of fast food restaurants throughout Smithtown, one location never had the chance to sling burgers to fries to locals. The cash registers, grills and deep fryers were never turned on at Wendy's on West Jericho Turnpike, next to . What was supposed to be a home to the fast food giant is now a haven for graffiti, the makings of a cesspool and weeds, caged-in by a locked chainlink fence.

Less than one week after closing, the former home to Mandee on West Main Street is bare, as if the store was never there. The only remnants of the chain are the stained letters left from the sign from years of weather beating down on the awning.

I will be up front from the start. I do not like tatoos. Now, even though they appear to be very popular today, I believe we should not permanently place artwork on our skin. If you like to change or get rid of your decor later on it's not as simple as changing a picture on a wall or repainting. Also, some people get tatoos in a moment of euphoria, not after a well thought out process. And let's face it, as you get older those tatoos don't look as wonderful, and your reasons for getting them seem rather silly. Not for everyone of course. One more thing, a tatoo shop next to a bar? If it is not already it should be illegal to give a tatoo to anyone who has been drinking!

George I will try to put your mind at ease. No reputable shop wold even think of tattooing anyone drunk or under the influence. I'm sure years ago it happened, I'm 40 years old and I plenty of tattoos(matter of fact ,still getting them) and I've never seen anyone getting tattooed drunk. Plus anyone who's getting tattooed knows that other than making a bad decision if you are drinking it thins your blood and you tend to bleed slot more while getting tattooed making more difficult for the artist and making your seat time a lot longer.

I appreciate your respectful answer. Not everyone is so nice on these posts. I am sure there are shops which turn away people under the influence but I am not convinced that you cannot find a shop that will not turn anyone away.

George , you could be right. I've never seen it though. It's like saying bar tenders don't over serve their customers. I'm sure it happens it's just not standard practice. One thing that might help is that this shop is on a very active part of 25. So that should ease the worries some have with people hanging out and garbage in the streets. The residents and public safety would'nt tolerate it.
