Week in Review: Worker Dies at Avalon Gardens; Woman Dies in Two-Car Crash

Oakdale-based United Cesspool Service employee Richard Dennison, 43, of Central Islip, was found dead in the sewage treatment plant at Avalon Commons on Tuesday evening, according to police.

Commanding Officer of the SCPD homicide squad Gerard Pelkofsky said police were called to the housing complex at approximately 6 p.m. after the wife of the worker was worried that she had not heard from her husband. Officers arrived at the scene to find someone matching Dennison's description in the sewage treatment vat.

Teresa Hatta, 53, of Smithtown, died in a two-car accident on St. Johnland Road in Smithtown on Saturday night. According to police, Hatta was driving northbound on St. Johnland Road at 8 p.m. when she was hit my Timothy Suozzo, 20, of Smithtown, who was driving westbound on River Heights Road. Hatta's vehicle continued to hit a tree after the crash.

Police said an employee at the 7-Eleven on Edgewood Avenue in Smithtown was issued a ticket on charges of selling alcohol to a minor during a six-store inspection Friday.

A masked white male stole an undisclosed amount of money from a cigar box at 7-Eleven in St. James Wednesday morning, according to police.
