Don't Miss: Roller Derby Match to Benefit Smithtown Family

Match to help play medical expenses of retired NYPD cop diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease.

It's time to lace up the skates and take to the rink on Saturday night for a good cause.

Strong Island Derby Revolution is playing a co-ed match against the Man’s Ruin Roller Derby of Chester, NY at 7 p.m. Saturday at World Gym Racquet & Sports Arena in East Setauket. Both teams skate to benefit a mutual friend, retired NYPD officer Leonard Crawford.

Crawford has been recently diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. It is a terminal disease with no known cure and an average life expectancy of 2-5 years after the date of diagnosis.

Tickets to Saturday's match are $15 at the door. Children under age 8 are free. All profits will go directly to the Crawford family for medical expenses.
