JWG's Done and Not Begun June 25-27, 2011

Wherein JWG and René receive phone calls of congratulations when the same-sex marriage law is passed by the New York Senate.

With amendments giving “religious bodies and corporations, and non-profits, etc.” the right to discriminate, and, if the bill is contested in court it will be no more, same-sex marriage has been legalized in the State of New York. Six States, including New Hampshire, have legalized this right. Four Republican Senators joined all, but one, of the Democrats to vote for this measure. René and I watched the proceedings. We were not impressed. The Democrat who opposed is not worth mentioning. He is a bungling disgrace. Senator Duane’s speech was disappointing. Two Republicans, Mark Grisanti and Stephen Saland were eloquent and heartfelt. (The two other Republicans, James Alesi and Roy McDonald were “brave” to buck their party. Senator Alesi was the first to break party lines. He has become a “friend”.) Thus, the making of history was made. Kudos to Governor Cuomo for making this happen. His tenacity is appreciated. He has already signed this bill. In New York City, Pride Day is tomorrow. I wish I could witness the proceedings. As you know, our current responsibilities here at Zwerglipatch keep us here.

I was interrupted by phone calls congratulating René and me on the passing of the same-sex marriage law in New York when I was scribbling yesterday; thus, the abrupt end to yesterday’s page.

Manhattan has a perfect day for the Pride March. I can imagine the jubilant celebration. One must experience the happiness at least once in their life. When thousands upon thousands of People gather in celebration of goodness, and one is part of, and lost in, this crowd, the sense of Pride swells.

This year, the sense of Pride will be heard and felt around the World. When Manhattan speaks, the World stops — and, listens.

It took many years for New York to pull its act together. This may not be bad. This Country’s awareness has grown. Too often, in the past, when Manhattan, and New York State, made a decision, the reaction by other States was: “That’s New York — a State unto itself. New York is not us.”

It is now known and realized that New York is, indeed, “us”. New York is The World in miniature. New York is the conscience of a Nation. New York is my home — Our Home. If one is not comfortable in one’s home, one should move. I would have moved... but, my heart is here. Here I shall stay.

It is reported that the Pride March in Manhattan went well yesterday. This is the happiest news in many a week. Spirits are high. Let us hope that they shall never be deflated.

This is a perfect morning. It could be a staycation morning. Shall I treat it as such? If only I could. In my wild imagination, I will.

Working vacations for a semi-retired person keep one busy and relaxed. I am busy. I am relaxed. I am one who is lucky.

Yesterday, I found nine four-leaf clovers. How lucky is that? We shall see. When a four-leaf clover pops up in my vision, my pulse charges with Hope. I pick the lucky clover and press it in a book to be shared with others. If one does not share, one does not care. Sobeit.
