JWG's Done and Not Begun Zwerglipatch January 17, 2011 3:24p.m.

Wherein JWG briefly ponders the theories of how water came to be on this Planet.

I know at some point in the future, when I read these pages, they will be in the past. It fascinates me that time creeps into every single page I write even when I do not use the word. When the ticking of a clock stops, the silence is a howl that is calmed when the ticking begins anew.

“On this day in history”, in 1893, Lili’uokalani, Queen of Hawai’i, was removed from her throne. Hawai’i was changed forever. Lili’uokalani always had faith in the American system. Ultimately, we failed her. American greed and prejudice won. (I always add: In the 1990’s, the United States Senate apologized. An official apology is a rare occurrence. This apology, for many, was too little too late.)

As I write, Daddy [Garand] is having a stent placed in his heart. Hopefully, this operation will go as well for him as it did Dad Meyer two weeks ago. As Mommy [Garand] said, “Time will tell.”

Outside, in Zwerglipatch, a great deal of snow clings to the trees. This frozen water does seem odd. Last night, I was reading about the theories of where Earth’s water came from. Was it brought by an asteroid? Comets? Was it able to manufacture water itself? How many of us ponder this question? I do find it odd that water, being essential, is not an “essential” in some cultures. Did people have access to water and when it disappeared those people learned to cope with its disappearance? Seventy-percent of this planet is covered with water. Why do some of us live in the driest of hinterlands? This is a puzzle I pondered last night while I lay in the dark on this island with snow outside my window. I, myself, have always lived near water. I always will. My blood depends on it.
