JWG's Grand Hodgepodge — Excuses & Preparing (2 poems)

Wherein JWG's curiosity never rests.

61. Excuses

Excuses
Are told to keep the critics from talking
And to avoid Truth.

Thinking of reasons
To explain certain actions is not new.
We always expect stories.

Some of us listen and smile.
We hear the falsities that are not said.
There are times when we condone the words.

Why bother to refute what we hear

When we know another lie will be told
And, we, ourselves, will be accused of something?

Storytellers have to be
Believable, and trusted, when they speak
To be considered “honest”.

Cynics know better
Than to believe everything they hear.
They know from experience.

Skeptical
Thinking can only empower Truth
With no excuses.

62. Preparing

Preparing
To rest after a busy day takes skill
When one is harried.

Thinking of comfort
Is “as restful as the actual act”;
That’s what we all like to think.

Thinking is no replacement
For the physical resting of muscles
Which require some inactivity.

Asking People if they like to sleep
Gets answers of envious yesses and
More often guffaws wondering why I ask.

I am curious, that’s all.
I, myself, have difficulty sleeping.
I like to rest with my eyes open.

I don’t consider
My brain to be a muscle that needs rest.
Alas, I admit I’m wrong.

The Sun sets
Each day offering us a chance to rest
For another Day.

"Why are Smithtown teachers continuing to pay for school supplies out of their ownRead More pocket?" Since when? Ever see the big list of supplies kids get in their folders at the end of the year for them to bring in next year? I think you're talking about the wrong school district.
