JWG's Grand Hodgepodge — Ferry Rides & Nine Decades (2 poems)

Wherein JWG takes journeys and ponders decades.

71. Ferry Rides

Ferry rides,
Although quite short, are long in duration.
They are relaxing.

I can imagine
Travelling on a long ocean journey
With my books and notebooks.

I would create a routine
Which is something I usually do.
It irks me no end that I do this.

Being a habitual creature
Has merits in following a schedule
Much like the timetable of a ferry boat.

Habits don’t come overnight.
Habits can be clandestine elements
Which make one’s life unique and special.

Personal habits
Made to work around others’ routines
Are hardly noticed at all.

Taking journeys
Upon which habits are formed is a right
We appreciate.

72. Nine Decades

Nine decades,
In any century, have seen changes.
This is good and bad.

Prices are cited
As examples of how our lives have changed.
Power is not considered.

Ask old-timers about “change”.
Today, milk and gasoline top the list.
Long ago, milk and bread were concerns.

Technology has greatly improved.
We are living in comfort — and, in fear.
We live in Peace with skirmishes all around.

Automobiles are solid
Reminders we have shortened the distance
Between places we thought far away.

Jets zoom overhead
Taking People to new realities
Shocking sensibilities.

In our Homes,
We have what we need and a great deal more.
People never change.
