JWG's Grand Hodgepodge — Harvesting & Monkey Butt (2 poems)

Wherein JWG recalls tales heard and pet names.

45. Harvesting

Harvesting
Stories I have experienced is hard.
I chose to forget.

Recalling tales told
By Hometown Elders is  much easier.
I’m fortunate I listened.

Relating to the antics
Of Oldtimers as they laughed at themselves.
They made mistakes fun.

Summer nights, watching bats and fireflies,

Sipping iced beverages, eating sweets,
We would be regaled by generous sharing.

Now that I’ve seen six decades,
I’m beginning to tell tales of myself.
Ten years ago, I would be ashamed.

Don’t ask for stories.
Under the surface of my bubbling brain,
I never know what will pop.

“Did you know...?”
I’ll start to say, but, pause, then go on with,
“You must have heard that...”

46. Monkey Butt

Monkey Butt
Is a rather odd term of endearment.
Don’t you think? I do.

A Monkey’s antics
Are fun to watch when visiting a zoo;
So, that word makes sense to me.

Pushing sexual buttons,
Derrieres are attractive to many;
So, I can understand that term, too.

If putting the two words together
Can kindle a feeling of happiness,
Who am I to put out the flame of desire?

Personal Pet Names prosper
In each generation and forgotten.
Youth wishes to be original.

For crying out loud,
Funny Bunny and Perky Pelican
Are names I’ve used for my Love.

Monkey Butt
Is not so peculiar after all.
In fact, I like it.

We can all make a statement one way or another when we vote. However, that statement should be madeRead More on a state level not the local level. Boards of Ed are powerless to do any real cost cutting. The state needs to take this on. We need real reform in Albany to reduce the ever increasing pensions and life long benefits that educators enjoy. Combine this with letting Albany decide salary increases for all educators and we can guaranty tax reductions over the next few years. Its that simple, Boards cannot do these. Lets get Albany to move on these NOW!
