JWG's Grand Hodgepodge — Interludes & Bistro Day (2 poems)

Wherein JWG gains from pausing and having a true Partner.

51. Interludes

Interludes
Intermittently Integrated in
Individuals.

These hiatuses
Are to be expected and not allowed
To interrupt the blood’s flow.

Pulsing neurons can transmit
Fortitude and bristling anxiety
Levelling into tranquility.

Calm moments are appreciated.
It is a pity they can’t be sustained.

They who try are on an ethereal path.

Placidity is acclaimed
By those who do not trust personal peace
For they fear it can never exist.

Emotional peaks
Have exquisite plateaus on which to walk
And gaze at the Firmament.

Pausing helps
To build strong transitions between fables
We have created.

52. Bistro Day

Bistro Day
Is an anniversary of meeting,
Eating, and Loving.

We met face-to-face.
We ate food loaded with cholesterol.
Can you believe we drank beer?

Yes, at The Corner Bistro,
In a dark corner, René and I drank
Dark beer, and, forget what words we shared.

The conversation must have been good.
Over thirty years later, we still talk.
We both appreciate silent moments, too.

Each day we have is special.
We laugh when we recall the lonesome times
When we felt we would be “single men”.

Neither one of us
Envisioned contentment with another
Would last more than a few years.

We are told
Having a true Partner is rare, indeed.
We believe those words.
