JWG's Grand Hodgepodge — Pretending & Movie Stars (2 poems)

Wherein JWG enjoys goggling at Stars of the Silver Screen.

16. Pretending

Pretending
Is a powerful deception with clout
To the Innocent.

An Actor pretends
And brings life to characters with meaning
We can all accept.

Most Politicians pretend
To quote facts from hypothetical polls
Ignoring that most are invalid.

Why must we pretend to comprehend
The gibberish hurled in our direction

And, afterwards, admit we haven’t a clue?

Scientists have to pretend
Theories are true until they’re proven false;
They have no problem with being wrong.

Animals pretend
To understand the words of their owners
Who talk non-stop to the pets.

I pretend
To understand all that I am writing.
Scribbling is my Truth.

17. Movie Stars

Movie Stars
Are fun to goggle at on the Big Screen
With no sense of guilt.

They look right at us
And we can look lovingly back at them
Knowing we’ll never be seen.

How many Stars do I love?
I could list Stars that make my heartstrings zing,
But, I know I’d forget favorites.

I like when Stars speak looking at me.
The Star’s a Person who makes me forget
There’s a Writer and Director guiding them.

Stars do fade and are replaced
By the fickle Public’s nearsightedness.
However, I recall the Quasars.

Faces never fade.
Movie Stars are lucky for they’re on film.
Today, film can be preserved.

My future’s
Firmament is a cavalcade of Stars
Gazing right at me.

How, in a period of rapidly declining enrollment, can costs be increasing so much from year to year,Read More you ask? The answer is in front of you in black and white. I urge you to READ your district’s budget: we are funding retirements when many of us cannot afford to fund our own during difficult economic times. These wheels were set in motion by contracts negotiated in times of unrealistic growth that may likely not occur again. It is time to open up these plans and relieve this unfair burden from our shoulders. Whatever other measures are pursued in order to control costs, including consolidation within and eventually with other districts, are never going to be enough if you cannot get this problem corrected. Write your congressman, for the love of God. If you need any more incentive to do so, please go to http://rocdocs.democratandchronicle.com/database/teacher-pensions-new-york and look at what Smithtown’s retirees are collecting MONTHLY. It will sicken you.

Tomorrow is the vote..vote NO NOW or our taxes are going to continue to sky rocket. Unless we doRead More something this town will continue to spiral down. More taxes aren't going to help. We need to cut expenses and get ourselves on a fiscally responsible plan.
