Last Saturday was the opening ceremonies and parade for the Nesconset Athletic Associations baseball season. It was a great day. The teams gathered at the baseball field at Gibbs Pond Road. The kids marched down Gibbs to the Browns Road fields. Once there, they had the pleasure of listening to Frank Catalanto, a Smithtown local who played professional baseball from 1997-2010. He spoke about heart and hustle. How he wasn’t the best player on his teams growing up. How scouts didn’t come to see him but others. When his senior year was over, he made everyone noticed him because of his desire to get better and passion for the game.
My son is playing for the first time. He is a member of the Ironbirds tee-ball team. He is excited to be playing with his friends from kindergarten. He has his first game this Saturday. Let’s wish all the boys and girls playing the best and to remind them to have fun and enjoy the game.
