Former carpenter and plans examiner for the Town of Smithtown Aubrey Derry has died. He was 87 years old.
According to a Florida Today obituary, Derry died Aug. 7 after a long battle with cancer. Derry was born in Northport on Jan. 31, 1925, and was a World War II veteran with the US Naval Armed Guard. Derry was also a building and plans inspector in both New York and Florida and a school crossing guard.
Derry is survived by his wife of 16 years Christine; his son, daughter, sister, granddaughters, numerous nieces, nephews, according to the obituary.
