James Riley, Retired NYPD Sergeant, Dies

Riley was 67 years old.

Smithtown resident and former NYPD Sergeant James Riley has died. He was 67 years old.

According to a Newsday obituary, Riley, a Vietnam veteran who served in the US Navy, passed away Dec. 5. Riley was the husband to Mary, father to Megan and Jimmy, and brother to Linda and Michael.

Funeral mass is set for Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Roman catholic Church with the interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at The Branch Funeral Home, located at 190 East Main Street in Smithtown.

Dn't worry, the district will bully and scare the parents into voting yes by threatening programs instead of doing what they need to do which is reduce administrative costs.

We can all make a statement one way or another when we vote. However, that statement should be made…Read More on a state level not the local level. Boards of Ed are powerless to do any real cost cutting. The state needs to take this on. We need real reform in Albany to reduce the ever increasing pensions and life long benefits that educators enjoy. Combine this with letting Albany decide salary increases for all educators and we can guaranty tax reductions over the next few years. Its that simple, Boards cannot do these. Lets get Albany to move on these NOW!
