Mary Carmel Hickey, former officer of the Dublin Society, has died. Hickey was 86 years old.
According to a Newsday obituary, Hickey, who was one of 12 children and emigrated from Ireland, died July 27. Hickey, a gardening, seamstress and knitting enthusiast, and frequent marcher in St. Patrick's Day parades for the 53 years she was in the U.S., was a 44-year Smithtown resident.
Hickey is survived by her three sisters – Claire, Una and June; her brother Paul; five children – Vivienne Wong, Patrick Hickey, Brian Hickey, Deirdre Heinold and Terence Hickey; and six grandchildren – Alex, Christopher, Brian, Marina, Thomas and Nicholas.
A mass was held for Hickey Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, and was followed by a burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
