Theresa Bright, Teacher, Dies

Bright was 79 years old.

Smithtown resident Theresa Bright died July 17 after battling cancer. Bright was 79 years old.

According to a Newsday obituary, Bright, who was born in Brooklyn, was a teacher for 38 years with most of her career as an educator spent in the Smithtown Central School District, teaching for roughly 20 years at Tackan Elementary School. Bright was a graduate of Brooklyn’s St. Brendan's High School, worked for her bachelor's degree in education from St. John's University, and later her master's degree in education from Brooklyn College.

The obituary also stated Bright was a volunteer at both St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center and the Smithtown Township Arts Council, and was a member of Saints Philip and James Church in St. James.

Bright is survived by her brothers Nicholas Iannelli and Randall Iannelli. A funeral Mass was held at Saints Philip and James Church, and Bright was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.

"Why are Smithtown teachers continuing to pay for school supplies out of their ownRead More pocket?" Since when? Ever see the big list of supplies kids get in their folders at the end of the year for them to bring in next year? I think you're talking about the wrong school district.
