Vicente Diaz, a Smithtown transplant by way of Pasto, Colombia, has died. He was 87 years old.
According to a Newsday obituary, Diaz passed away Nov. 23. Diaz was a retired employee of Slater Electric in Glen Cove and member of Local Union 1922 IBEW. He was the father to John, Ana Dhillon, Martin and Maria Gates; the grandfather of Martin Vicente, Alexander, Nicole, Natalie, Marissa, Deana, Jacquelyn, and Kristin. Diaz is survived by his brother, Carlos.
Visitation is set for Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home, located at 125 W. Old Country Road in Hicksville. A mass will be held for Diaz at the St. Paul the Apostle R.C. Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
