EXCITING CONTEST TO SUPPORT STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS! This week only!We need your help this week! Donorschoose.org, a charity linking education donors and teachers directly, is holding the contest of a lifetime and this special education teacher is directly involved!For every $20 donation received to a project to help aid in life-changing academic and social skills for students with disabilities, the teacher receives one entry into a contest. Donorschoose is honoring the teacher's commitment to getting donors to support their classroom by providing up to $3000 of extra funding to the classroom! So far, 9 people have donated, which earns us a $75 gift card. If 10 people donate, they'll give us $250; 25 and we'll earn $1000. If 50+ people donate, we'll be lucky enough to earn a $3000 grant. This is not unreachable! I know there are 41 generous people in this town!

Currently, I teach a 12:1:1 (12 students, 1 teacher and 1 teacher assistant) special education class in the largest specialized school in a high poverty area of the south bronx. Growing up on Long Island, we had everything. Access to superfluous resources that made us the incredible individuals we are today. Unfortunately, these kids don't have that. The budget for special education in NYC is highly limited and supplies are scarce. Parents are unable to support their students financially, so the teachers are forced to spend their own money. Thankfully, there are resources out there for us, and donorschoose is an amazing one. Through this website, community members have donated a $2000 interactive whiteboard that has changed the way my students see the world. Their access to make connections to the outside world is now boundless.  Additionally, the community's generous donors have provided us with over $500 in printing supplies (printer, ink and paper) to last us a while, while our building is out of ink and paper.
