Do You Remember the Businesses That Have Come And Gone in Smithtown?

Turnover happens normally in a community, but what place do you miss the most?

Businesses have come and gone in Smithtown, Nesconset and St. James through the years – and the slumping economy hasn't helped make things easier.

Recent exits include and The Barn, which contends even though we haven't seen a single worker at the site since it shuttered.

The topic begs the question: Which eatery or store from the past do you miss the most? Tell us in the comments.

I remember the origonal Smithtown Diner where one of the cooks got murded by a guy named "bloath"who also murded diner employees on the souht shore just prior to it and also "King George's" on Main Street next to the old Smithtown movies. I used to work at the "Florence's Hilltop Diner" That was back in 1966.

I was also a big. Fan of Woolworths where you could pick out a balloon at the lunch counter and there would be a piece of paper in the Baloon with a price written. You could get a Big Banana Split anywhere from 1 cent to 99 cents.

There was indeed a Bohack's in Kings Park, but it shut down in the late 60's when I was a pre-schooler; it was replaced by a hardware store. (It was on the north side of Main Street -- maybe where the laundromat is now.) I have a lot more memories of the Hojo's. The clams were indeed terrific, but they were evidently understaffed and it took forever for an order to arrive. Billy Blake's was a favorite destination, and remained so after it eventually became the indoor flea market with the mini store fronts.
