Letter: Thank You For Helping Us Find Our Family Pet

A happy ending for the Maher family who found their lost dog through tips and the kindness of others.

To the Kings Park and Smithtown Communities,
Everyone has expressed an interest in how Ralphie was finally found. Well, I can tell you, it never would have happened without the help of our wonderful community!

Ralphie escaped on Saturday, 10/5, around 5pm. For three days, we had no information on him... no sightings at all. Finally, on Tuesday, a woman saw him  near Plymouth Blvd and Washington Blvd, in Smithtown. We called and whistled for him for a few hours but no Ralphie. We were just about to give up for the night when a guy suddenly pulled up to see if we were looking for a little dog. We followed him to a court off Washington and finally got Ralphie to come out of someone's backyard! All the neighbors were out and we were all screaming and crying! They could not believe that he had been gone for 3 days! It was a very dramatic and emotional reunion.
Ralphie is in great health...other than some scraped paws. He's been eating like a champ. I wish I knew what he saw and experienced during those three days!

We feel so lucky and blessed to have him back. Ralphie is my mom's dog and she is away on vacation. She still has no idea of the frantic and extensive search that went on for her "baby". Thankfully, when she comes home on Friday night, we can tell her this "funny" story rather than the terrible tragedy this could have been.

My family and I feel so appreciative of this helpful and caring community. Everyone willingly offered to help us out. There were so many eyes looking for him! If not for the help of those people, he might still be missing.
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

so happy you found him. We were watching out for him too. Your Mom may want to consider having Ralphie "chipped" when she returns. It's inexpensive and will help in case he ever escapes again. So glad he is back home now :)

You can have you pet "Chipped" for around $40 at Petco when they have their clinics on weekend mornings. Thats about 1/3 the price a vet charges.
