Dead Body Found in Short Beach Car Fire

Police say body is too badly damaged to determine identity without dental records.

Update 7 p.m.: A body found in the car fire Tuesday morning at Short Beach in Nissequogue was so extensively damaged that authorities could not even identify the sex, police said.

Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick of the Suffolk County Police Homicide Department said during a press conference Tuesday afternoon that it was too early in the investigation to determine the cause of the fire or identify the victim and police are hoping to have more information of the victim’s identity Wednesday.

Fitzpatrick said the car was fully engulfed in flames when the Nissequogue Fire Department arrived on the scene after they received a 911 call at 11:54 a.m. The detective said investigators would use dental records as well as trace the license plate of the car to help determine the victim.

Homicide and arson investigators are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Police are asking that anyone with information concerning the investigation contact Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

No story that is about smithtown is ever posted with the right details. It seems like money gets things hidden pretty well. Lets see if we ever get to hear the outcome of this one.

So, if they learn about a fire just after somebody call 911, all of the cameras surrounding the place is bull*it?

This should not be a problem getting passed. It is across from the hospital there is a nursing homeRead More near by. We need more nursing homes as there are no beds available for our aging population. If you want to stay here near your family as you age and need a nursing home in the future, let them build this. You do not want to go outside of Smithtown and live in nursing homes out of this area - trust me, they are not nice! It is a fact of life, we are all going to be there one day- at least have a say in it and have them build one for our future needs. They do not have much noise or activity- really. Plus they will bring jobs to our area.

Nick, North Country rd. is 25A. Northern Blvd. intersects 25A and runs all the way to Roseville.Read More Northern Blvd is a small street about 1 mile long that is one block over from smithtown HS East main entrance. It's a serious problem when most of the neighborhood walking to the HS will pass by this creeps house. It's a totally different Northern Blvd.
