Cops: Drunk Smithtown Man Went 103 on Jericho Turnpike

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Bethpage man was arrested in Smithtown on Oct. 3 and faces one misdemeanor count of third-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury. Police said the man tackled another person off Pia Boulevard, knocking them to the ground, and began punching them in the head and chest. The Bethpage man then slammed the person's head against the ground and bit them on the side of the face, according to police reports. 

Jason Helrigel, 28, of Smithtown, was arrested on Oct. 6 and faces one misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated - first offense. Helrigel was driving a 2006 Mitsubishi at 103 miles per hour on West Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown when he began swerving in and out of his lane, according to police reports. Helrigel was pulled over in the Stop & Shop parking lot. 

Ryan Dutton, 24, of Kings Park, was arrested on Oct. 5 in Smithtown and charged with one misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated - first offense. Police said Dutton was driving a 2012 Nissan westbound at 80 miles an hour on Veterans Memorial Highway in Smithtown at  12:38 a.m. Officers pulled over Dutton for speeding and swerving along the roadway. 

Cortney Daves, 23, of Shirley, was arrested Oct. 5 in Smithtown on one misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated -first offense. Daves was driving a 2007 Dodge westbound on Smithtown Main Street following close behind another car with her hi-beam lights on, according to police, then made a left on Old Willets Path. Police said Daves crossed over the center median into oncoming traffic several times before she was pulled over. 

Anthony Sottile Jr., 27, of Smithtown was arrested Oct. 3 on two misdemeanor charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs and fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana under two ounces. Police said Sottile left a parking lot on Route 111 at 12:36 a.m., making a right heading northbound on Route 111. Sottile made a left onto Estate Road without yielding to oncoming traffic, nearly causing an accident, when police pulled Sottile over and discovered several bags of marijuana inside his vehicle, according to police reports. 

A Kings Park man was arrested on Oct. 2 on one misdemeanor charge of petty larcency. Police said on Aug. 18 the man allegedly stole a white gold diamond ring costing less than $1,000 in the Smithtown area.
