Cops: Smithtown Man Scammed Buyer in Used Car Sale

Suffolk County Police say Emmanuel Amaral allegedly took $4,800 for a van he never delivered.

Suffolk County Police on Wednesday arrested a Smithtown man for allegedly taking money for a used car that he never delivered to the buyer.

Emmanuel Amaral, 42, collected $2,000 in cash as well as a check for $2,800, police said, for a 2006 Ford Van he was allegedly selling.

Police said Amaral, who told authorities that he sells cars out of Jake’s Towing and Recovery at 4 Yerk Ave. in Ronkonkoma, has been charged with similar crimes in the past.

That's why police think other incidents involving Amaral may have gon unreported, and they are asking anyone with knowledge to call CrimeStoppers at 631-854-8452.

Police arrested Amaral on the charge of grand larceny in the 3rd degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.

This guy back in 1997 tried to sell me a car that he said was his mothers and was in his family for years. I was tipped off by a good friend I'll call Jazzy that he was a scammer. The car smelled like cigarettes, he didnt even vacuum the fucking thing. Good thing my boy Jazzy was looking out for me. That scene would have gotten ugly
