Crime Report: Driver Hits Tree, Charged with DWI

Numerous DWI arrests were made this week in Smithtown by the Suffolk County Police Department Fourth Precinct.

The following information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions

Suffolk County Police Department Fourth Precinct reported these arrests and incidents in Smithtown during May 3-10.

Louis Vecchia, 47, of Port Jefferson was arrested May 5 in Smithtown for allegedly providing employees less than the required wages at Suffolk Paving. This incident, according to reports, happened between Jan. 1, 2001-Oct. 1, 2010.

Debra Strzelczyk, 44, of Saint James was arrested May 9 in Saint James and charged with fourth degree grand larceny. Reports indicate Strzelczyk allegedly stole over $2800 from Prestige Global. 

Kevin Kienle, 30, of Nesconset was arrested May 8 in Nesconset and charged with first offense DWI. Reports indicate Kienle was traveling in a 1999 Ford Explorer at approximately 11:45 p.m.  He crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Smithtown Blvd., and Lake Avenue and continued driving until he hit a tree.

Tyler Whitford, 18, of Saint James was arrested May 8 in Saint James and charged with fourth degree grand larceny. Reports indicate Whitford allegedly stole money and jewelry from a locked box inside a home. 

Thomas Hernandez, 20, of Saint James was arrested May 7 in Saint James and charged with second degree DWI. Reports indicate Hernandez was traveling eastbound on Route 25 at approximately 4:15 a.m. when he allegedly failed to maintain lane of travel. Upon being pulled over, the officer noticed he was intoxicated. 

Matthew Sheskin, 20, of Nesconset was arrested May 7 in Hauppauge and charged with fourth degree grand larceny.  Reports indicate Sheskin allegedly stole jewelry and money from a box in a home. 

Andrew Seppanen, 25, of East Northport was arrested May 6 in Smithtown and charged with first offense DWI. Reports indicate he was traveling westbound on Route 454 in a 2001 Nissan at approximately 2:05 a.m. and allegedly exceeded the speed limit and failed to maintain lane of travel.
