The black icy conditions on walkways and roadways kept the Community Ambulance Company extremely busy Friday, with 21 calls for help handled by 3 p.m. "That is more than double our average daily call volume in only a few hours. Of those 15 calls were weather related injuries," Department Chief Chris Gonzales told Patch in an email.

Route 25A Reopens in Fort Salonga After Single-Car Accident
Suffolk County police closed down a portion of Route 25A in Fort Salonga following a single-car accident on Monday evening. Police said they received a 911 call at 5:43 p.m. reporting a driver lost control of their vehicle, crashing into a utility pole on Fort Salonga Road/Route 25A ,closest to Soundview Drive intersection.
