Fire Department Responds to Sump Fire

Saturday night fire spotted by a neighbor.

Firefighters on Saturday night rushed to extinguish a fire in a drainage sump on Sheryl Crescent in Smithtown.

A Smithtown Fire Department official on the scene said a neighbor had spotted the fire earlier in the evening and called 911.

As of 10 p.m., the fire was nearly extinguished, but firefighters were still monitoring the affected area.

The neighborhood is near the border of Kings Park.
