Fire Hits Nesaquake Middle School Sheds

Firefighters from the Smithtown Fire Department put out a blaze at the middle school early Sunday morning in the school district work sheds.

Sheds containing construction and landscaping equipment in the rear of Nesaquake Middle School caught fire early Sunday morning, according to the Smithtown Fire Department.

According to the fire department, the call for the fire came in at 4:23 a.m. Sunday to the location near Edgewood Avenue at the cross streets of Glenrich Drive and Harness Road at a Smithtown Central Fire District work yard. Firefighters fought the fire strictly from outside the sheds due to the possibility of propane or hazardous materials being stored at the scene. Upon putting the fire out the firefighters entered the sheds to search for any further fires or potentially dangerous situations.

Fire department officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation and that no injuries were reported.
