Three-Car Crash Left Lindenhurst Woman Dead, Two Injured

The three-car crash on Jericho Turnpike Wednesday afternoon left one person dead, two more injured.

Svitlana Shvets, 42, of Lindenhurst, was pronounced dead at St. Catherine’s of Sienna after being involved in a three-car crash that took place Wednesday afternoon on West Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown, according to the Suffolk County Police Department Fourth Precinct.

According to police, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Shvets was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima westbound on Jericho Turnpike, east of Winston Drive, when she crossed over into eastbound traffic, striking a 2003 Nissan Maxima and a 1996 Nissan Altima, then striking a snow bank.

John Schmidt, 52, of Smithtown, who was driving the 2003 Maxima, and Gary Blauvelt, 23, of Smithtown, who was driving the 1996 Altima, were also taken to St. Catherine’s of Sienna to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
