Wading River Man Arrested in Teachers Federal Credit Union Robbery

According to police, Gabriel Rodriguez was arrested on charges for robbing the Teachers Federal Credit Union in Smithtown on May 24, as well as two other local banks.

Gabriel Rodriguez, 32, of Wading River, was arrested and charged with robbing the Teachers Federal Credit Union in Smithtown on May 24, as well as two other local banks, according to police.

Police said Rodriguez was arrested at East John Street in Lindenhurst around 1 p.m. Tuesday, and charged with three counts of third degree robbery.

According to police,. The teller complied, handed over an undisclosed sum of cash, and the man left the bank travelling on foot eastbound on Main Street.

Police said 24-hours later . At approximately 9 a.m., the man handed a teller a note stating that he had a gun and demanding cash, which the teller complied, and the man made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled westbound on Jericho Turnpike.

The third bank robbed was TD Bank in West Babylon on May 27.

Arraignment is scheduled at the First District Court in Central Islip for June 1.

I urge you to READ your district’s budget: we are funding retirements when many of us cannot afford to fund our own during difficult economic times. These wheels were set in motion by contracts negotiated in times of unrealistic growth that may likely not occur again. It is time to open up these plans and relieve this unfair burden from our shoulders. Whatever other measures are pursued in order to control costs, including consolidation within and eventually with other districts, are never going to be enough if you cannot get this problem corrected. Write your congressman, for the love of God. If you need any more incentive to do so, please go to http://rocdocs.democratandchronicle.com/database/teacher-pensions-new-york and look at what Smithtown’s retirees are collecting MONTHLY. It will sicken you.
