Former Nesconset Fire Department chief Lawrence Mays has died. He was 83 years old.
Mays, a Bohemia resident and 50-year volunteer firefighter, died May 13. A memorial visitation service will be held Tuesday at Moloney’s Bohemia Funeral Home, located at 1320 Lakeland Avenue, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The wake is set for Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Mays, who was the Nesconset chief in 1951, was also an employee of the Republic Aircraft in World War II, worked at Grumman Aerospace on the LEM project, an honorary ex-chief at the Bohemia Fire Department and a charter and board member of the Bohemia Historical Society for 26 years.
