Multiple Fire Departments Respond to Fire in Nesconset

Smithtown, St. James, Centereach, Ronkonkoma and Lakeland lend help to the Nesconset Fire Department to put out a fire Thursday afternoon.

The Nesconset Fire Department, as well as Smithtown, St. James, Centereach, Ronkonkoma and Lakeland fire departments, responded to a house fire at 191 Smithtown Boulevard in Nesconset at 1:38 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Nesconset Fire Department Chief Tod Hutchinson said the fire started in the left rear of the house, and it is too early to determine its cause.

"We pulled up on arrival and the fire was on three sides of the building, it's a vacant house, there's no power or water to the house," he said. "We got a report of squatters in the building, [but] no one was in the building."
