Police: Man Arrested in 2010 Smithtown Bank Robbery

A Central Islip man was arrested on Thursday and charged with robbing a Smithtown bank in 2010, police said.

Carey Peguese, 37, robbed the TD Bank at 714 Smithtown Bypass on Aug. 26, 2010, but he never returned to his Centereach residence after the robbery to avoid capture, police said.

Pattern Crimes Unit detectives were able to track down Peguese Thursday afternoon in Central Islip, where he had been living, police said.

During the robbery, police said Peguese handed a teller a note announcing a robbery.

The case of money he was given, however, concealed a dye pack, which exploded after Peguese left the bank, causing him to drop the cash in the Famous Dave's restaurant next to the bank, police said.

Peguese is charged with third degree robbery. He is due to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
