Police: Man High on Heroin at Time of Accident

Frank Lynch, 54, of Smithtown, was arrested on DWI drug charges following a Sunken Meadow Parkway accident Wednesday, police said.

A Smithtown man was arrested Wednesday on DWI drug charges after admitting to snorting heroin before his involvement an accident on the Sunken Meadow Parkway in Commack, according to New York State Police.

According to police, Frank Lynch, 54, had glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech during the post-accident interview, and failed sobriety tests given by the arresting officer. Police said Lynch admitted to snorting heroin prior to the accident and when his Toyota was searched nine envelopes containing heroin and one bottle containg an alprozolam pill were found.

Police said Lynch hit a Land Rover after making an unsafe lane change at 1:47 p.m. on Sunken Meadow Parkway near the Harned Road exit.

Lynch was arrested on charges of DWI drugs, a misdemeanor, and well as seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, as well as numerous traffic violations, which include unlicensed operation.
